Anis has had a long journey. Being from a minority tribe in Afganistan, the Hazara, he left Afghanistan under the Taliban and fled as a refugee where he eventually found temporary refuge in Indonesia. While seeking help from a local church, Anis left Islam and gave his life to Christ. Though suffering great loss he has seen the faithfulness of God in his life. Currently, he lives in Georgia where he’s starting New Life Church and seeking to get the gospel to the thousands of Afghan people displaced in Georgia.

Anis attended the Bible Training Center for Pastors and Leaders and was an active member of a local church before taking this step of faith. Feeling a deep burden for his people to know Jesus, Anis is doing whatever it takes to start New Life, working bi-vocationally and using much of his own money to pursue his calling.

When I met with Anis he explained, “Afghans don’t really think an event is worth coming to unless there is good food. My wife and I know it’s a sacrifice from our family but I’m having to spend my own money right now to buy most everything.”

Unlike the typical church plant that has a set service, a launch date, and publicizes far and wide, a church plant that reaches this demographic takes time. Its a slow process. Afghans are dedicated Muslims. It can take months and months before the gospel message is actually clear. And when it does, a decision to follow Christ can result in abandonment of community, family, and friends. Though Anis is looking to reach Afghans here in Georgia, many fear what could happen to their families back home if anyone found out.

New Life offers a Sunday fellowship gathering but most of the work revolves around forming relationships, serving, taking people to appointments, and visitations. When Muslims do come to Christ they can take a big risk which is why partner churches must be ready to help through relationships, meeting physical needs, and providing community.

While many Afghans are being turned back to a Taliban controlled Afghanistan due to aslyum cases not being settled, many are looking for hope. The chances of those who return of actually hearing the gospel again decreases tremendously. The prayer of Kaleidoscopic Call and of New Life Church is that the Lord of the Harvest would send laborers so all who are here will have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.
